LOOK UP!

You might think I'm a mean mama, taking time to capture this photo of my little dog Barney BEFORE helping him get the yogurt carton unstuck from his head! But the thing is, I know Barney well, and I know he wasn't concerned at all. Rather, he was still happily licking away at the contents inside the container. Of course, he makes me chuckle when this happens, as it often does, and yes, I always help him out of his predicament. His head is always a sticky mess once he's in the light again--evidence of his single-minded persistence in his greedy quest to feed his belly. 

But isn't that just like us sometimes? We are so intent on gaining every last drop of whatever it is that we think we need, whether it be food, a relationship, a job, health, hobbies, pursuing a dream, serving in ministry, or a vacation, that we're not even aware of anything beyond what has our immediate focus. We get stuck. Instead, God calls us to look that intently on HIM. We miss so very much of His bigger, better picture unless we seek His face every single day, every moment of every day! 

...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1:17-18

I am also blessed and feel privilged and honoured to get connected with you as well as know you as a child of God and about your interest in missions. I did enjoy your blog post on "Look Up". You have taken a beautiful illustration of your dog and how often we are same as your dog. Love this picture of your dog. I love getting connected with the people of God around the globe to be encouraged stengthened and praying for one another. I have been in the Pastoral ministry for last 41yrs in this great city of Mumbai a city with a great contrast where richest of rich and the poorest of poor live. we reach out to the poorest of poor with the love of Christ to bring healing to the brokenhearted. We also encourage young and the adults from the west to come to Mumbai to work with us during their vacation time. I was delighted and honored to be asked to play the flute for my dear friend Margaret’s wedding to her wonderful new husband, John. The plan was for me to perform a selection of songs starting about ten minutes before the ceremony and continuing through the time when our pastor, the groom, and the groom’s family made their entrance. The day was lovely with a few puffy clouds and moderate temperatures. However, I was a bit concerned with the reasonably strong breeze as the whole event was to take place outside. I TRUST IN THE NAME OF THE LORD

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,  but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.   Psalm 20:7 I was recently in a conversation with a godly man, a friend I highly respect. He also happens to be a retired homicide detective. We were discussing the use of firearms for self-protection. That conversation WAS NOT, and this post IS NOT, about the right to carry firearms, one of the hot political topics of our times. For the record, I do strongly support the right of citizens to carry arms, and God bless those of you who do, especially with the intent of protecting loved ones or other innocents, but I just as strongly believe that many of us should not own guns.   But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33) This verse is familiar to most of us. Familiarity with God’s Word is good; trusting it enough to act on it and live it is better. Just this week I had the joy and encouragement of watching two dear friends walk by faith. One friend had a sudden and catastrophic shift in her world; her husband went into a coma after a routine surgery. By God’s grace he is still alive and improving. What was so inspiring to me, and I know to many others in our local congregation, is that when this man’s very life was still hanging in the balance, both his wife and daughter came to church. They knew that was the best place for them: worshipping God and hearing His lifegiving Word with fellow believers. My other friend was getting married at noon.
